Project Overview

Every year, Golf Town hosts the Re Grip Event, where thousands of golfers get their clubs re-gripped. For years, Golf Town sought a sustainable solution to divert used golf grips from landfills and integrate recycling into their ESG commitments.

At the start of 2024, [Re] Waste partnered with Golf Town to launch the [Re] Grip Recycling Program, a nationwide initiative to collect, process, and repurpose used golf grips, turning them into a valuable resource instead of landfill waste.

The Challenge

Golf grips are made from rubber and synthetic materials that are difficult to recycle through conventional waste streams. Without a dedicated recycling program, thousands of pounds of golf grips were ending up in landfills every year, contradicting Golf Town’s sustainability goals.

Key challenges included:

  • Material Complexity – Golf grips contain rubber, adhesives, and synthetic polymers, requiring specialized processing.
  • Scalability – A solution needed to work nationwide, handling high volumes of grips across multiple locations.
  • Circular Economy Integration – Finding viable end-uses for the recycled rubber to ensure a true closed-loop solution.

Our Solution

To address these challenges, [Re] Waste and Golf Town launched a first-of-its-kind golf grip recycling initiative, ensuring grips were collected, processed, and repurposed responsibly.

Nationwide Collection ProgramGolf grips were collected from Golf Town stores across Canada.
Rubber Processing & Repurposing – Used grips were sorted, processed, and diverted from landfills.
Integration with Golf Town’s ESG Goals – The program allowed Golf Town to track diversion rates, demonstrating measurable sustainability progress.

Implementation & Process

  1. Collection at Retail Locations – Dedicated [Re] Grip collection bins placed in Golf Town stores nationwide.
  2. Processing & Material Recovery – Grips were transported, cleaned, and processed into reusable raw materials.
  3. Repurposing & Circular Economy Impact – The recycled rubber was diverted from landfills and prepared for future product applications.

The Results & Environmental Impact

477,000+ golf grips diverted in 2024—over 43,000 lbs of waste saved from landfills.
Established the first scalable golf grip recycling program in Canada.
Reinforced Golf Town’s leadership in sustainability, aligning with corporate ESG commitments.

Partner Testimonial

"Partnering with [Re] Waste on the [Re] Grip Recycling program has enabled us to divert nearly one million golf grips from landfills annually. This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles, transforming waste into valuable resources.”
— Cam Munro, Chief of Staff, Golf Town

Looking Ahead

The [Re] Grip Recycling Program is set to expand in 2025, with even greater environmental impact and new applications for recycled rubber. Golf Town and [Re] Waste continue to explore ways to innovate golf sustainability and build on the program’s success.
